Nationals! One of my favorite events of the year is always the Canadian Championships. After a year of world cups there is nothing better than getting together with three or four hundred of my skier friends for a sunny, slushy celebration of skiing.
So far, so good. I started it off with the best distance race result of my career, winning my first non-sprint national title. It was a difficult waxing day and I was lucky to have waxless skis that worked surprisingly well. I skied relaxed and chose full focus in every moment of the race and was also keen to capitalize on the oppoortunity to continue improving my classical technique. I may have been top Canuck, but my good friend Kikkan Randall (first American woman to win a World Cup) took the victory.
The fun continues with sprints on Friday. I am thrilled to be racing on the Olympic trails for the first time and have already made lots of new friends with some of the incredibly great people up here in Whistler. A shout out to all my new families and thanks for the great dinners!
