Chandra's Latest Update

November 18, 2008

This year winter is en retard. No, that's not the most politically incorrect thing you've ever read on my blog, it's French for "late." Not only that if the sketchy business in my ankle persists I'm going to be late for my race season.

My awesome team enjoyed some on-snow training at the beautiful x-c ski mecca of Silverstar Resort in BC last week. I enjoyed a few precious hours of skiing before the pain on my ankle bone made it impossible to wear a ski boot at all. Hard running on the extreme ups and downs of Camore's world cup trails these past couple weeks have created so much tension through my foot that a tendon coming from the bottom of my foot and goes over my ankle has seriously jarred and strained by continuing to try and do all the shock absorption itself and it has decided that now, just days before my scheduled departure for Europe it has had enough.

So what can I do but rest, ice, ibuprofen, physio, get new orthotics and try to find sponsors for Fast and Female? I have the classiest team of support people around me and am optimistic that it will settle down in time for racing if I don't do anything to aggravate it (making friends at the pool and challenging them to swim races is now banned). The real tragedy is that I'll probably be wearing my moccasins instead of the killer heels I bought at the Gold Medal Plates dinner this Thursday in Calgary. Well that and perhaps missing the first sprint World Cup.

At least Devon is off to a great start despite taking some extreme rest in October to bounce back from a bout of over-training syndrome. He's fared very well in his first races so far: placing 3rd and 4th in two 15km FIS races in Sweden in preparation for the first World Cup of the season this weekend. He's training hard, racing hard and keeping everyone informed on www.devonkershaw.com.

And now the photos:

November and still sitting enjoying cryogenics outdoors. Ridiculous.More cold water. I am a Polar Bear.

Thanks to everyone who's been on the ankle case! For sure this happened because in my last update I was bragging about conquering old injuries and everything going to awesome. Jinxed it!
